Dr Wilberforce O. Wanyanga UNIDO Project: Strengthening the Local Production of Essential Medicines in Kenya

Dr Wilberforce Omutanyi Wanyanga is a consulting Pharmacist. He is the UNIDO National coordinator for the implementation of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Sector Development Strategy and in particular the Kenya GMP Roadmap, a stepwise approach to attain WHO GMP Standards in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.

Wanyanga has worked in a wide the profession range from public Pharmacy management & administration in formulation of pharmacy policy, drug supply management, manufacturing, audits and quality assurance systems. He has been instrumental and participated in many fora of change systems in the profession including membership to various Boards of management (Kenya Medical Supply Agency KEMSA, 1998/2007); professional body (Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya, past Chairman, 1997/8 and Chair Legal Ethics Committee, PSK) and regional activities FEAPMA & FAPMA. His desire is to improve pharmacy practice standards in Kenya and the region especially in public regulatory and Good Manufacturing practices. He has been involved in the development of policy papers and documents for founding of the Government of Southern Sudan, Ministry of Health since 2004.
Currently serving as and as member of various Boards of Management including School of Pharmacy, University of Nairobi; Federation of Africa Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (FAPMA); Health advisory Board, Kakamega County; Pharmacy Board of Management, National Christian Churches of Kenya and Chairman

Wanyanga has in the past been member of advocacy for access to essential Medicines and legislation of Industrial Property laws. He is quite active in advancing ideals related to local pharmaceutical production of quality medicines
